New Initiatives for 2015

Vancouver, BC – September 17, 2014

Enhancements added to the 2015 BMO Vancouver Marathon

Vancouver’s only Marathon and Canada’s most scenic running event to build runner and spectator anticipation with unique additions

Vancouver, BC – September 17, 2014
– New runner perks, race additions, programs and event weekend benefits await BMO Vancouver Marathon participants and spectators. Sell outs in all races are predicted for 2015, so runners are encouraged to sign up early to secure their spots.

This season, a new Marathon Relay event allows corporate, charity and other teams of two to four runners the opportunity to experience the renowned Marathon course. With four race legs, each covering between 5-12 kilometers, the Relay event provides great distance options for all runner types, with the potential to achieve very fast times.

In addition to the new race, the Vancouver International Marathon Society, the non-profit organization that puts on the event, has been working with suppliers and stakeholders to add more value for runners as well as improve the overall race experience for volunteers, supporters, and spectators – with a goal of 100,000 raving fans in 2015.

New initiatives include:

  • Discounted Running Room Training Clinic packages available with registration
  • Group registration opportunities for friends, family, corporate and running club groups
  • Speaker Series lead by SportMed BC professionals
  • Camosun Hill Challenge on the Marathon course with prizes and bragging rights
  • New Expo venue at Vancouver Convention Centre West with triple the exhibitor space
  • Increased fundraising options with 30+ charities to support in the Run4Hope program
  • More community cheering and involvement

“As a non-profit organization that is dedicated to promoting Vancouver’s active lifestyle and creating a positive, memorable experience for those involved, we are thrilled to bring forth these new developments” says Charlene Krepiakevich, Executive Director of the Vancouver International Marathon Society. “We are still in the process of planning even more exclusive experiences for May.”

2014 programs that will be continued include:

  • Free transit ticket for TransLink’s Canada Line for race morning
  • Runners Legacy Club, recognizing runners who participated in a Vancouver Marathon event 15, 20 or 25 times
  • A hotel offer for Marathon and Half Marathoners who book their stay through beVancouver

BMO Bank of Montreal will return as title sponsor of the event for the 9th consecutive year. Similarly, the Running Room will again support the event as the official Running Retail Partner; Running Room has been involved with the BMO Vancouver Marathon for approximately 20 years. Saucony will also be back as the official Running Apparel and Shoe Partner.

Race day is May 3, 2015. Registration for all events will open in October, 2014. Stay tuned for more event details on Facebook and Twitter as well as bmovanmarathon.ca.
