Vancouver International Marathon Society joins True Sport

The Society partners with True Sport as charity partner to advance values-based principle driven sport

Vancouver, BC – October 26, 2015 – The Vancouver International Marathon Society has become a member of True Sport, joining a network of more than 3,400 other likeminded, Canadian sport organizations and supporters who believe that good sport can make a great difference.

True Sport is designed to give people, communities and organizations the means by which to leverage the many benefits of sport from a platform of shared values and principles.

“We are very excited to collaborate with the Vancouver International Marathon Society,” says Karri Dawson, Executive Director at the True Sport Foundation “With a shared understanding of the value and power of community sport, together we hope to inspire Canadians to seek out and experience the benefits of quality sport.”

Through this collaboration, runners and other stakeholders can donate to, or fundraise for, The True Sport Foundation to support values-based and principle-driven sport across Canada. In addition, donors can designate their funds to support the advancement of the Vancouver International Marathon Society’s commitment to True Sport; in alignment with the Society’s vision, mission, and values, these funds will be used to support Canadian elite athletes, youth programming, and help reduce the barriers to the sport for disadvantaged populations.

“The collaboration with True Sport aligns with our values of ethical community sport and offers the Society an opportunity to accept funds for much needed programming,” said Charlene Krepiakevich, Executive Director of the Vancouver International Marathon Society (Society), the non-profit responsible for the BMO Vancouver Marathon, Granville Island Turkey Trot, and Fall Classic running events.

“We are thrilled to be the first sport organization in the province to partner on a charitable initiative with the True Sport Foundation. True Sport believes that good sport can make a great difference. As organizers of the Vancouver Marathon since 1987, the Society has always been dedicated to providing a positive, enriching experience for runners while promoting a healthy, active lifestyle within Vancouver’s community,” concludes Krepiakevich.
