100,000th Marathon finisher to win an Air France flight for two to Paris and more!
Vancouver, BC – April 28 –
With a rich history that dates back to 1972, Vancouver’s only Marathon event is set to welcome its 100,000th Marathon finisher on Sunday, May 7, 2017!
To celebrate this milestone, event organizers have teamed up with Air France to award the 100,000th Marathon finisher with a round-trip flight for two to Paris and two entries to the Paris Marathon courtesy of Air France, a $200 BMO Mastercard, $100 Running Room gift card, Saucony shoes, and a sweet Powerbar prize pack!
“May 7 will be a celebration of history and community,” says Graeme White, Executive Director of the Vancouver International Marathon Society, organizers of the long-standing event annually in May. “From the bottom of our hearts, our non-profit organization would like to thank everyone who has contributed their time and effort over many decades in helping us to achieve this special milestone,” says White.
Come out and celebrate this milestone and witness Vancouver’s 100,000th Marathoner cross the Finish Line around noon on Sunday, May 7. Half Marathon champions will cross the Finish Line early around 8am. Marathon champions are expected to be crowned closer to 11am, with the Marathon masses finishing around 12pm noon.
‘We look forward to welcome the 100 000th finisher (and guest) on board Air France to enjoy an effortless 9700 kilometer journey before taking on their passion in the streets of Paris, a setting as unique as Vancouver is for running enthusiasts’said Jean-Noel Rault, Vice President and General Manager, Air France-KLM Canada.
You may catch all of the action as runners exit Stanley Park and head up Georgia Street before turning left onto Pender Street where runners sprint to the downtown Finish Line located at West Pender Street and Bute.
In addition to viewing opportunities along course, organizers have planned for a free exciting Street Festival just a block North from the Finish Line with tons of sampling and family fun that will continue until 2:30pm.
Since Vancouver’s only Marathon started in 1972 with 32 finishers, the event has grown into an internationally renowned race that now annually welcomes runners from over 60 countries. The event continues to grow in numbers and reputation thanks in part to Vancouver’s stunning scenery and vibrant community.
This world-class, legacy event is wholly organized by the local non-profit Vancouver International Marathon Society and relies on the support of nearly 4,000 volunteers annually. Join in! Run, Cheer or Volunteer.
