Racing Towards a New Era of Cancer Care in B.C.

Vancouver, BC – October 27, 2025
Cancer rates are expected to rise by 35% in B.C. over the next decade. As our population grows and ages, and people living longer with treatment, demand for cancer services is also expected to increase by 60%. We’re in a race against time with this disease, but with your help it’s one we believe we can win.

With cancer diagnoses in B.C. expected to rise by 33% over the next decade due to an aging and growing population, the need for groundbreaking advancements at BC Cancer has never been more urgent.

Show your support for British Columbians facing cancer by registering as a charity runner for the BC Cancer Foundation, the fundraising partner of BC Cancer and the largest philanthropic funder of cancer research and care in the province.

Donor generosity drives breakthroughs that are advancing life-saving cancer research and enhancing care across the province, including:

  • Launching a B.C.-led international clinical trial testing a single, targeted dose of radiation with the potential to revolutionize treatments worldwide
  • Creating a world-first BC Cancer surgical procedure that preserves fertility in young women with early-stage endometrial cancer
  • Expanding access to specialized cancer care, such as high-dose rate brachytherapy and a new oral oncology clinic
  • Supporting the development of four new BC Cancer centres set to open by 2030 in Surrey, Burnaby, Nanaimo and Kamloops

BC Cancer Foundation has also launched a $50 million Technology Transformation campaign to bring a suite of state-of-the-art technology to BC Cancer – Vancouver to transform cancer care and improve outcomes for patients across the province.

With your support, we will equip BC Cancer with imaging, diagnostic and radiation technologies that provide faster answers, better outcomes and renewed hope for patients and their families. These technologies include:

  • A first-in-Canada Next Generation PET/CT scanner, which can image the entire body in a single frame in two minutes, compared to the current standard of 40 minutes
  • A first-in-Canada Photon Counting CT scanner, which uses leading-edge technology to deliver more accurate imaging and less radiation exposure
  • A cutting-edge Contrast Enhanced Mammography (CEM) unit that improves breast imaging for people with dense breasts
