Lori Wong has run over 25 Vancouver Marathons and 118 marathon in total. In the interview, Lapointe pointed out that they were in the presence of greatness. “Exactly, I have somebody sitting beside who has done more than twice as many marathons then I have. It’s baffling, it’s inspiring,” responded Nash.
Wong, although running in over 118 marathons has never seriously injured herself. “I’ve never been one to push. I go out and enjoy my run and I never stop running,”said Wong. “In my young years, my best time was 3:41hr in Portland, now I’m up at 5:00hr, 5:30hrs but I still love it and I still get out every time I can.
In no shortness of greatness himself, Nash will be running his 19th consecutive Vancouver Marathon on May 1st. “I no longer care about what my watch says; I know I’m not going to get a personal best and I don’t let that bother me. I still go out there, I run, I enjoy it, I enjoy the scenery of running in a beautiful city this weekend and talking to people as I’m running,” said Nash. “You just get out there and you will never regret going for that half hour to hour run, it’s just you and your thoughts.”
Also mentioned in the interview was the amazing volunteers of the BMO Vancouver Marathon. “I have to say, I have great admiration for these people – who will basically stand by on the side of the road, holding out a cup of water for 3 or more hours just to do it,” said Lapointe. The non-profit Vancouver International Marathon Society will assemble almost 4,000 volunteers to help stage one world’s top destination race events on May 1st.
