BMO Vancouver Marathon will showcase local musicians to entertain and motivate runners and spectators
Vancouver, BC – February 7, 2012 – Seventeen local choirs, school bands, jazz groups, DJs and other amateur musical groups will be on a world stage as they motivate 15,000 runners and thousands of spectators from around the world at the BMO Vancouver Marathon on May 6th, 2012.
The new Community Music Challenge program has officially launched and the call for local talent has been issued.
“The Community Music Challenge is part of our desire to foster a spirit of community celebration at our event,” said Charlene Krepiakevich, Executive Director of the Vancouver International Marathon Society, “We are very excited to showcase some of Vancouver’s incredible local amateur musical talents and provide amazing entertainment for the runners and spectators.”
Participating groups will also receive recognition and promotion throughout the BMO Vancouver Marathon website and social media channels, have a song added to the BMO Vancouver Marathon Music Playlist, have a chance to win prizes totaling $5000 and the top three groups will play at a post race event.
The BMO Vancouver Marathon and Half Marathon is organized and operated by the Vancouver International Marathon Society, a non-profit organization. The event is one of Canada’s largest marathons and has a 40 year history within Vancouver and the running community internationally. On Sunday, May 6, 2012, the BMO Vancouver Marathon will feature two new point-to-point courses, showcasing the city’s famous landmarks, shorelines and neighbourhoods. The 2012 events will be capped at 5,000 marathon participants and 10,000 half-marathon participants.
