SportMedBC Presents New Speaker Series for 2015 BMO Vancouver Marathon
Informational talks for runners by certified sports medical professionals will occur monthly leading up to marathon weekend
Vancouver, BC – January 8, 2015 – Runners gearing up for the 2015 BMO Vancouver Marathon have the opportunity to get prepared and motivated through a new Speaker Series lead by SportMedBC experts. In addition, information from SportMedBC on injury-prevention, sports medicine, sports science and sports training will be available for runners through the bmovanmarathon.ca website.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with the BMO Vancouver Marathon,” says Alison Cristall, Executive Director at SportMedBC. “With a goal to support health and performance through sport and exercise, I believe our professional practitioners can help prepare BMO Vancouver Marathon athletes.”
The free sessions, held at four BMW dealerships throughout the lower mainland and at the event’s Health, Sports & Lifestyle Expo, will be open to the general public. Sessions will start at 5:30pm and light refreshments will be provided for all attendees. SportMedBC professionals will take the stage at 6:00pm to speak for 30 minutes, with an open Q&A to follow.
The first 50 people inside the doors of the January 21 kick-off event will receive a free RunVan toque, and be treated to a talk on injury prevention. Other presentation topics will include cross training, rehabilitation, biomechanics, and exercise psychology.
Speaker Series sessions will be held on the following dates and locations:
- January 21 – Brian Jessel BMW – 2311 Boundary Road, Vancouver
- February 4 – The BMW Store – 2040 Burrard Street, Vancouver
- March 4 – Auto West BMW – 10780 Cambie Road, Richmond
- April 8 – Brian Jessel BMW – 2311 Boundary Road, Richmond
The fifth and final 2015 Speaker Series session will be presented during the event’s Health, Sport & Lifestyle Expo, a free Expo which will be held in a new location, triple in size, at the Vancouver Convention Centre West.
“Runners have asked for more training and fitness-related information, so we are excited to collaborate with SportMedBC in offering this new Speaker Series,” says Charlene Krepiakevich, Executive Director of the Vancouver International Marathon Society. “The sessions cover a variety of topics that will help prepare runners to succeed. The events are not exclusive to BMO Vancouver Marathon registrants, so anyone interested is encouraged to attend.”
