Spectators can compete for prizing with the Community Cheer Challenge presented by Chevron
If you’re not one of the thousands running in the BMO Vancouver Marathon, Half Marathon, 8KM or Relay this weekend, you can still join the fun! Visit the free Health & Sports Expo Thursday-Saturday for tons of giveaways, and be sure to come out to cheer on Sunday, May 7.
Show your support with the fun Community Cheer Challenge presented by Chevron and you’ll be eligible for the $7,000 in cash prizes up for grabs! Highlights also include the welcoming of the 100,000th Marathon finisher who will win free flights to Paris, a marriage on-course, and a special celebration for the final finisher.
A prize of $1,000 will be awarded to the neighbourhood with the largest number of spectators who show spirit, and creatively showcase what makes their community special. Two $500 prizes will also be awarded in each of the following categories:
- Best Group/Team Costume
- Best Cheer/Singing Routine
- Best Dance Routine
- Best University Student Club or Faculty Cheer
- Best High School or Middle School Group Cheer
- Best Creativity/Decorated Station/House/Business
To be eligible to win, groups must creatively represent their community, provide a safe environment for spectators, runners, volunteers and officials, create a fun and memorable experience for runners, then demonstrate spirit and enthusiasm at the event.
Winners will be chosen by event organizers, the local non-profit Vancouver International Marathon Society. To compete to win, please submit photos using hashtag #RunVanFan on social media @bmovanmarathon or email: [email protected].
